NCC at LOKD College
NCC the biggest youth organization having an enrolled strength of more than 13 lakhs cadets came into existence on 16th April, 1948 through XXXI Act of Parliament formally inaugurated on 15th July, 1948; since then NCC has come a long way in molding careers of so many young man and woman, emerging as the highest motivational force behind joining the defense forces of India.
Genesis of LOKD College NCC dates back to 1981-82 academic session, with the introduction boys using under 5 Assam Bn. NCC Tezpur, LOKD College NCC came into existence with 40 S. D. cadets and in its initial years NCC was being supervised by Lt. Birendra Nath Deka, HoD Economics as Care Taker Officer. After a short shift as CTO, Birendra Nath Deka underwent Officer’s training course and served as Second Lieutenant, Lieutenant and Captain respectively. Under his leadership, NCC in this institute was growing every year. Since its inception, NCC in LOKD College has been doing excellent works in varied fields right from internal activities to other activities of social relevance. Object behind these activities was to give cadets the idea of collective responsibility towards the institute, towards the society and above all, towards the nation.
Besides this, NCC has been instrumental in this college in imparting sense of unity and discipline. Smartly learned out boy and girl cadets and their working together in a planned and systematic manner is a regular feature of every event in this college.
Md. Riazuddin Ansari, HoD History took over the responsibility of NCC boys’ wing after the retirement of Capt. Birendra Nath Deka in the year 1999. Under his supervision NCC cadets involved themselves in varied social activities apart from the routine institutional training.
Introduction of girls’ wing in the academic session of 2001-2002 under 73Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC with Mrs. Anamika Devi, Deptt of English as Care Taker Officer added another chapter as far as the history of NCC in LOKD College is concerned. In the first year itself, 30 young and energetic girls enrolled as cadets and since then girl cadets are also making their presence felt in every sphere, bringing laurels to this institution.
Till now 3 boys and 2 girls participated in Republic Day Parade at Rajpath, New Delhi. Apart from them, there are other cadets in the list of achievers and LOKD College is proud of their excellent work and dedication towards NCC.
At present, NCC LOKD College has a total strength of 90 cadets (50 boys and 40 girls) being supervised by ANO Lt. (Dr.) Pitambar Sedai and Capt. (Dr.) Jyotshna Baruah respectively. LOKD College NCC plays a very significant role in all aspects of college life. Besides it has been doing commendable work in extending valuable service to the society. For instance blood donation camp, awareness activities concerning various social issues, tree plantation and village adoption.
