Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das college was established in the year 1970. Since its inception, Bengali department has been a part and parcel of the college. But it took long twenty years when in 1990 the college introduced Major courses in the department. Many students who passed from this college with major courses in Bengali have had their post graduation in Bengali with credit from various universities. Subrata Kumar Roy, Bapon Das, Pankaj Deb, Mita Das,product of the department has served as faculty members in the department. Ramananda mandal, who is serving as faculty in the department is also a product of Bengali department. At present the department has three sanctioned and one non-sanctioned post.
